Directive is a one-woman leather design house operating out of a garage near the Atlantic Ocean. Each modern leather bag, handsewn wallet, bolo tie, bespoke fringe jacket is made with the intention of making clients feel powerful and creative with their fashion, whether it's with a hardworking leather tote made to haul everything and anything, or with a dramatic statement bolo tie or one of a kind leather jacket.
First and foremost, Directive is run by an artist, with an artist’s mentality- each piece is an opportunity to explore the medium, bring ideas to life, and to pass on to others. Directive isn’t a typical small business looking to outsource manufacturing or make it big with one design. The goal of Directive is to create more intimately, to build community through small batch production and creative exploration, to find a deeper connection with multidimensionality. Every Directive piece is an opportunity.
Directive was born in 2012 in the former heartland of the leather industry, Milwaukee, WI.
Every Directive bag is made from raw materials formed into modern classic shapes, and from start to finish Jess Goehner imbues her creative spirit into each bag.
Directive products strive to be beloved, unique basics for a lifetime. Made of full grain leathers the bags become softer and more unique to each owner with time. Lined bags (as noted) use heavy weight natural canvas for interior visibility.
Strap edges are hand painted and burnished with wax for longevity and a more polished look. All bags are made with solid brass hardware made in the USA. Handmade heavy duty zippers withstand repeat handling and safely enclose personal items.
